One of Canada’s top international divers, Blythe is a former gymnast wanted to become a veterinarian when she grew up. At the age of 11 she made the switch to diving and now she is a two-time World Champion and Olympic Medalist. Blythe was Canada’s first ever World Champion in 2001 when she set a New World Record on 1M. In Montreal, at the 2005 World Aquatic Championships, Blythe reclaimed her World Title on 1M by smashing her benchmark set in 2001. At her second Olympic Games, Blythe added an Olympic medal to her extensive resumé by winning the Bronze Medal in Athens with Emilie Heymans in the 10M synchronized event. Since the 2005 World Championships, Blythe has had success on both the 1M and 3M. She won the gold medal in both events at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. At the 2006 FINA World Cup in China she won the Bronze on 1M and at the 2007 World Aquatic Championships in Melbourne, Australia she claimed the Silver Medal in the same event. Blythe is known as one of the strongest springboard divers in the world. Her height on take-off is substantially higher than most of her other competitors.

In 2008 Blythe completed her Degree in Communication and Business at the University of Southern California and trained full-time in Calgary in preparation for her third Olympic Games. She was placed fourth in the three-metre springboard, edged out for the bronze by Wu Minxia of China. Guo Jingjing of China successfully defended her Olympic gold medal, while Julia Pakhalina of Russia won the silver.

Bridgitte was initially introduced to river marathon kayaking by her father whilst at high school. She started competitive river kayaking at the end of 2002 and began sprint training at the end of 2004, very part time as she was still studying. Her first SA sprint championship was in 2005. Bridgitte represented South Africa for two years internationally in sprint kayaking and marathon, then competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, reaching the semi-final.

Bridgitte won Bronze in the K1 1000m at the World Canoe Sprint Champs in Canada in August 2009.

Brendon HARTLEY [b.10th November 1989 at Palmerston North, New Zealand] Murphy Prototypes Sportscar Team LMP2 Class. Former F1/F3 Racing Driver

Brendon began the 2012 season without a drive, but returned to Ocean for the second round of the championship in Bahrain in place of Jon Lancaster. After the two rounds in Bahrain, he was in turn replaced by Víctor Guerin. With no suitable single-seater drives available, Brendon joined the Murphy Prototypes sportscar team, which was competing in the LMP2 class in the European Le Mans Series. Following the cancellation of the second round of the ELMS championship [which would have been Hartley's début event] and the series' future in doubt, Murphy was one of several ELMS teams invited to compete as a guest entry in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, a round of the more prestigious FIA World Endurance Championship. Driving the team's Oreca 03-Nissan, Brendon finished tenth overall and third in the LMP2 class with team-mates Warren Hughes and Jody Firth. The trio teamed up again for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but retired from the race after completing 196 laps of the circuit.

For 2011, Brendon returned to Formula Renault 3.5, driving alongside Jan Charouz for the Gravity–Charouz Racing team. He also returned to GP2 for the eighth round of the series at Spa-Francorchamps, replacing Kevin Mirocha and driving alongside Johnny Cecotto, Jr. in the Ocean Racing Technology team, for whom he had tested before the start of the season. He finished in fifth place in his first race with the team, and 19th in the overall championship.

2010: New Zealand's Brendon Hartley raced with Italian team Coloni Motorsport in the final two rounds of the GP2 series, which is regarded as the strongest Formula One feeder category. The Palmerston North driver will race at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in Italy, and in the final round in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on November 13-14 2010.

For the start of the 2010 season, Brendon was a joint official reserve driver for both the Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso teams. Brendon had also been taking part in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, alongside Daniel Ricciardo, with Tech 1 Racing; he was positioned 6th on the table. However, in July 2010, Red Bull Racing replaced Brendon with another driver and he was dropped from the team. Despite the loss of his Red Bull backing, Brendon made his GP2 Series début at Monza in September 2010, replacing Vladimir Arabadzhiev at the Coloni team. He scored a point in the season finale at Yas Marina to place 27th in the championship.

In February 2008, aged just 18, Brendon got his first taste of Formula One. He was invited to perform a show run for Red Bull Racing in Riyadh. From here he performed the initial 3 day shake down test for Toro Rosso's 2008 spec car, the STR3. In November 2008, it was announced he would be providing cover for Mark Webber by performing testing duties alongside permanent test driver Sebastien Buemi for Red Bull in the 2008 RB4 F1 car.
Brendon became the first New Zealander since the early 1980’s to be eligible for a Formula 1 Super Licence during a successful test with Red Bull Racing at the Jerez circuit in Europe December 2008. The Palmerston North 19-year-old was exhilarated at the end of his first public test session in a Grand Prix car. He covered 83 laps of the 4.4 km Spanish circuit and was quickly up to speed and showing his potential.

Brendon was born in a family well integrated within motorsport. His father, Bryan, had raced in many forms of motorsport, most notably Formula Atlantic. At the age of six, Brendon began his motor racing career in kart racing, following his brother, Nelson's footsteps. Six years later, the young New Zealander competed in his first full–scale race championship, competing in the Formula First category. Up against many seasoned veterans, Brendon finished the season in seventh.
In 2003, the thirteen year old got his first major break as he won that year's New Zealand Formula Ford Festival which resulted in him getting a drive for the following year's Formula Ford championship. In a car his brother used the previous year, he started four races and won two of them.
After a season in Formula Toyota New Zealand, Brendon moved to Europe, competing in the Eurocup Formula Renault and Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC). The New Zealander finished 14th and 10th in the Drivers' Championship in the Eurocup and North European Cup respectively, taking a podium position at Anderstorp in the latter. His second year in Formula Renault saw him stay in the Eurocup, but move from the NEC to the Italian championship. That year saw him take three wins in the Eurocup and three podiums in the Italian championship, and took championship title in the Eurocup.
In 2007 Hartley also made his Formula Three debut in the Master of Formula Three at Zolder event. He finished an incredibly respectable 4th. This resulted in a test with A1 Team New Zealand and the role of the rookie driver for the series

Charlotte HARTLEY [b.21st April 1986 at Cliviger, Lancashire] Hockey Player
Forward/Midfield, Bowden Hightown, England.

Charlotte began coaching Hockey in 2007 at Oundle School, Peterborough, England. Her success to date includes 2006 Commonwealth Games - Bronze Medal [England senior] 2005 KT Cup - Gold Medal [England senior] England U21 Junior World Cup member. In 2009/2010 Charlotte played professionally for clubs in New Zealand and Spain but has now retired from professional sport and concentrates on her career as a personal trainer as well as coaching at two local clubs.

Dylan joined Worcester in 2003 after moving to England and was one of three players who joined the Northampton Saints Academy from Worcester Warriors in 2004. After representing England as an 18-year-old [he qualified through English ancestry] Dylan was selected for the U19 age group in 2004, a year young. After an impressive series of 2005 Six Nations and World Championship performances in his second year at prop for England U19s he was quickly drafted into the U21 squad for the equivalent tournament in Argentina later that same year, aged only 19, where he proved invaluable cover for all three front row positions. In his first season with Northampton he quickly proved his worth, pulling on a Saints jersey on 16 occasions, often at number 2 with England hooker Steve Thompson adding his weight on the flank. His performances earned him a call up to the England Saxons squad for the 2007 Six Nations, when he went on to score a try in both matches against Italy A and Ireland A, before a disciplinary ban cut his season short and prevented his inclusion in the Saxons' squad for the 2007 Barclays Churchill Cup. Man of the Match in 2008-2009 European Challenge Cup final victory over Bourgoin.

Garrett HARTLEY [b.16th May 1986 at Southlake, Texas USA] American Football Placekicker; New Orleans Saints, National Football League. Super Bowl 2010.

Garret's parents are Bill and Cookie HARTLEY, his brother is Taylor.

Super Bowl 2010: On January 24, 2010 Garrett made a 40-yard field goal in overtime against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game to send the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl. He continued in Super Bowl XLIV, going 3-for-3 with field goals of 46, 44, and 47 yards. He became the first kicker in Super Bowl history to convert three field goals of 40 yards or more.

Paul HARTLEY [b.19th October 1976 at Glasgow] Player/Manager at Alloa Athletic.

Paul was appointed player/manager at Alloa Athletic on 17 May 2011, despite having announced his retirement as a player on 13 May. Paul was appointed to get Alloa back into the second division having been relegated the season before. He had the tough job of rebuilding the squad as every player's contract had expired. Of the team only three players were offered new contracts, of those only one player accepted. Paul managed to get a full squad together and Alloa won the title on 7 April 2012.

July 2010: Paul signed a two-year contract with Scottish club, Aberdeen. He was immediately made Captain. Midfielder; Aberdeen and Scotland Footballer. Paul announced his retirement as a player at the end of the 2010–11 season.

2009 - 2010: Paul scored 5 goals for his club, Bristol City. With a desire to return to Scotland, Paul was made available for free transfer by his club in July 2010.

July 2009: Paul joined Bristol City, Championship League. Greek side Iraklis Saloniki had also offered him a deal. In the summer of 2009 the 32-year-old's contract with Celtic expired. Hartley made 36 appearances for Celtic 2008-2009 and was told by new manager Tony Mowbray he was free to move on. Hearts were also keen to take Hartley back to Tynecastle, having sold him to Celtic for £1.1m in 2007. "HARTLEY has fond Celtic memories ..." [BBC Interview July 2009]

The lifelong Celtic fan signed for Celtic in January 2007 from Hearts, and helped Celtic win a League and Cup Double in his first few months with the club. He made a total of 49 appearances for Celtic, scoring one goal – a header against Spartak Moscow in this season’s UEFA Champions League qualifier in Russia. Paul has also won 22 caps for Scotland, and has scored one goal. Prior to joining Hearts from St Johnstone in May 2003, he had spells at Hamilton, Millwall, Raith Rovers and Hibernian. He made a total of 149 appearances for the Tynecastle side, scoring 38 goals, which included 16 out of 16 penalties.

Peter HARTLEY [born 3rd April 1988 at Hartlepool] Centre Back Defender, Hartlepool United Footballer

Born in Hartlepool, Peter grew up watching football at The Vic but it was at Sunderland where he played his football and after joining them in 2000 he was promoted from the youth academy in 2006 and made his First Team debut for the Wearsiders as a substitute in the game at Leicester on New Year's Day 2007. He was allocated the number 29 shirt for the 2007/2008 Season, making his debut for the Sunderland first team as a substitute in the 2-0 away win against Leicester, on the 1 January 2007. The centre-back went out on loan to Chesterfield where he played 12 games between February and May 2008. Peter signed for Hartlepool in 2009 for the 2009-2010 season, during which he scored 2 goals. His consistent and whole-hearted performances earned him a new deal in the summer of 2011 and he went on to produce another strong campaign in 2011/12 for which he was voted Players' Player of the Year.

Tim HARTLEY [b.2nd January 1986 at Warrington] Leigh Centurions Rugby League Player

Originally a Leigh Miners Rangers junior player, Tim went on tour to Australia with a NW Counties U-15 squad in 2001. The 23 year old played for Salford and Harlequins in Super League. Hartley also did a stint with Halifax [2007].
2008-2009: Tim last played Widnes Vikings Rugby League team in National League One; 34 appearances, scoring 11 tries and kicking 111 goals. Squad number 15. Northern Rail Cup Winner 2009, playing in the Vikings 34-18 win over Barrow.
2010: Tim Hartley will be playing for his hometown team, Leigh Centurions. Tim said: “It’s a massive opportunity. I’m a Leigh-born lad, I’ve lived in Leigh all my life and it’s going to be absolutely fantastic playing for my hometown club". Squad No. 6; Stand-off or Centre position.

Bill HARTLEY [b.27th June 1950] Former British Athlete

Ranked ninth in the world in 1975 for his performances in the 400m hurdles, Bill grew up working for the family business but was a natural athlete and began his athletic career as a high jumper at the age of 13. He then moved on to running 400 metre relay races for the Waterloo Harriers. By the age of 18, he held the Under 19 UK record for 400m hurdles of 52.9 seconds. At 19, he was a junior international and at 21 he was representing Great Britain internationally in senior competitions.
In 1974, Bill won a Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand, and a Gold Medal at the European Games in Rome in the 400m relay. He achieved a personal best of 49.65 seconds in 400m hurdles by winning the AAA Championships at Crystal Palace. That same year, he was a member of the winning Europa Cup 4x400m relay team, along with Alan Pascoe, David Jenkins and Jim Aukett. Bill continued running for Great Britain and England until 1982 when he began to suffer from intermittent spells of injury due to a problem with his achilles tendon.
In 1977 Hartley married fellow athlete Donna Hartley. The marriage later ended in divorce.
After his running career ended, he became a sprint coach and conditioner for Widnes Rugby League Club and then Wigan Rugby League Club. Bill now concentrates on running the family florist business in Lydiate

Leslie 'Gene' HARTLEY [28th January 1926-13th March 1993] Former American Racing Car Driver

Gene raced in 10 Indianapolis 500's in the 1950's. He was also the 1959 USAC National Champion Driver of Midget Cars, as was his father, Ted HARTLEY. Ted and his brother Glenn began racing in the early days of motor racing and came from the Roanoke, Indiana area. 

Gene's teams incl.1950 Langley, 1951-1952 Kuzma, 1952-1954 Kurtis Kraft, 1956 Kuzma, 1957 Lesovsky [finished 10th],1959 Kuzma, 1960 Kurtis Kraft. After retiring from driving, Gene became co-promoter of the Kitley Avenue Speedrome in Indianapolis.

Colonel John Cabourn HARTLEY [15th November 1874 - 8 March 1963] England Cricket Team

Born at Lincoln, England, John played first-class cricket for Oxford University Cricket Club between 1895 and 1897 and Sussex County Cricket Club between 1895 and 1898. He then went on to play for the Marylebone Cricket Club in first-class fixtures until 1926. HARTLEY also played Test cricket for England on their tour to South Africa in 1905-06. In the Army, Colonel HARTLEY served in both the Second Boer War and the First World War, being mentioned in dispatches during both conflicts. John died in 1963 at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, England.

John Thorneycroft HARTLEY [9th January 1849 – 21 August 1935] English Wimbledon Tennis Champion

The only clergyman to win Wimbledon, John was born at Tong, Shropshire, into the privileged family of John HARTLEY and Emma THORNEYCROFT [daughter of George Benjamin THORNEYCROFT of Shrubbery Ironworks in Horseley Fields, the first Mayor of Wolverhampton 1848]. John attended Harrow School and Oxford University.
John Thorneycroft HARTLEY's father, John HARTLEY, had been born on the 26th January 1813 in Dumbarton, Scotland. He established a glass works in Dumbarton but soon afterwards moved to the Midlands and became a partner in Chance & Sons. He married Emma THORNEYCROFT in 1839. Later he became a partner with his brother-in-law, Colonel THORNEYCROFT, in Thorneycroft’s Ironworks and Collieries, and became very rich. He was also Mayor of Wolverhampton in 1858. He leased Tong Castle from LORD BRADFORD in 1855 and he and his wife lived there until their deaths. John d.1884; Emma d.1909.
John Thorneycroft HARTLEY married Alice Margaret LASCELLES in 1875 [Alice b.London 23 April 1855], a granddaughter of Henry LASCELLES, 3rd EARL OF HAREWOOD, Member of Parliament for Northallerton from 1826 to 1831 and also served as Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire between 1846 and 1857. They had no children.
John HARTLEY, wearing full-length cream flannels and a cricket sweater, was the winner of the 1879 All Comer's Wimbledon Final, defeating Irishman Vere ST LEGER-GOOLD 6–2, 6–4, 6–2. He made a 500-mile round trip by train at the weekend, back to Yorkshire from London to fulfil his ecclesiastical duties, returning on the Monday to win the match, prize money of 12 guineas and a silver cup worth 25 guineas. [In 1907, during a gambling trip to Monte Carlo casinos, GOOLD and his wife murdered a wealthy Swedish woman. They were both convicted and died at Devil's Island, French Guiana penal colony, she from typhoid just after arriving and he from suicide in 1909].
HARTLEY won the 1880 Gentlemans Singles title by default, after the 1878 Champion, Frank HADOW failed to turn up. HARTLEY retained his title the following year by defeating Herbert LAWFORD, 6–3, 6–2, 2–6, 6–3. HARTLEY lost in thirty seven minutes in the 1881 Gentleman's Singles final, to William RENSHAW, 0–6, 1–6, 1–6. After that John disappeared from the tennis record books.
He continued to be Canon John T HARTLEY, the Vicar of Burneston in Yorkshire, Rural Dean of Ripon, until 1919. It is likely that he retired from active ministry at that time. In 1926, at the Golden Jubilee championships, HARTLEY was presented with a Silver medal by QUEEN MARY, as one of thirty four surviving champions. He died in 1935, in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, at the age of 86.
